		<abstract>The land cover is intrinsically related to the energy exchange that occurs between the surface and the atmosphere, influencing in both local and regional scale, once terrestrial ecosystems are the source, sink and carbon stock. Carbon can also act as a positive or negative feedback to the elements that regulate the Earth's climate [1-2]. In this sense, the processes of land use and land cover change, beyond the loss of biodiversity, alter the Earth's albedo, chemical composition of the atmosphere, biogeochemical cycles, changes the energy balance and influences the climate, composing a great part of global environment research agenda [1-4]. Tropical forests have high biodiversity and carbon stock in addition to providing important environmental services [5]. Due to the importance of the Amazon forest [6-7], INPE performs its monitoring through various projects, among which the Amazon Deforestation Monitoring Project (Prodes). PRODES aims to map and estimate the rate of deforestation in the Amazon forest [8]. However this research does not indicate what use is being given to deforested areas and this comes against the issues related to land use and land cover change. To answer this question, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) initiated TerraClass project, to classify land use and land cover. This project has already mapped land use and land cover in Prodes deforested areas up to 2008 [9]. In this new edition, PRODES deforestation was mapped until 2010, together with the uses and occupation transition analysis. This paper aims to present the main transitions for land use and land cover, on the state of Rondonia.</abstract>
